Small Greenhouse Plans

Building a small greenhouse

If you want to change your lifestyle and get a healthy diet, you should consider building a small greenhouse and growing vegetables and legumes in your own garden. From our experience, these constructions don't require a significant investment, but you will be able to supply fresh vegetables for your family every single day.

When building a greenhouse in your backyard, you should also consider building a raised garden bed. These constructions complement each other properly and you will be able to grow a large variety of plants and legumes. You can even place the raised garden bed inside the greenhouse, especially if the soil in your garden is not proper for growing vegetables.

Small Greenhouse Plans

Choosing simple diy greenhouse plans is a good option, especially if you want to undertake the construction process by yourself. From our own experience, any person with basic woodworking skills can get the job done in just a few days, if all the preliminary steps are done with good judgment.

There are many shapes and sizes you could choose from, so you need to assess you needs and budget, before starting the actual project. A small greenhouse will provide enough vegetables for a small family, so make sure you work with attention and great care. Although you won't be able to grow a large variety of plans on such a small surface, we still consider that it will provide a decent compromise between costs and benefits.

As you can see in the video, a greenhouse is no more than a simple structure covered with polyethylene film. Use 2x4 lumber to build the frame of the greenhouse and lock them together with 3 1/2" galvanized screws. Always pre-drill holes in the components before inserting the screws, as to prevent the wood from splitting.

After you cover the structure with thick film, you need to lock it into place with 1x2 lumber, placed over the structure. Last but not least, build a small greenhouse door out of 2x4 lumber and lock it into place with metal hinges.

How to Build a Small Greenhouse

Building a small greenhouse will not only enhance the look of your garden, but it will also ease your work when growing vegetables. As you can see in the image, you need to cut the components at the right size and lock them together with screws. Always align the components at both ends, if you want to get a professional result.

It is essential to choose a god location for your greenhouse. Therefore, make sure the greenhouse has a southern expose and it gets at least 6-8 hours on direct sunlight every single day. Work with attention and with great care, if you want to get a professional result, from the very first attempt.
